With a month to go to the eagerly anticipated inaugural Underberg Gran Fondo on Sunday 31 July, the event has been boosted by being awarded the rights to decide the first ever KZN Gravel Championships.
With the first SA Gravel Championships scheduled for the Western Cape in September, the 140km race at the Underberg Gran Fondo will decide the KZN Gravel titles for 2022, and places in the provincial team to the nationals in September.
“With Gravel being recognised worldwide as an exciting and independent cycling discipline, we look forward to growing our own Gravel Champions before they go and represent KZN at the SA Gravel Championships,” said Absolute Motion coach Johann Wykerd.
He confirmed that the KZN titles will be decided on the 140km race in male and female classes for Elites, Sub-Vets, Vets, Masters and Grand-Masters.
The Underberg Grand Fondo will also offer a shorter 90km route option for the less fit riders, and eBikes, and has promised excellent prizemoney across all the classes.
